Stop the presses. A local person has won the annual White Castle recipe contest, utilizing them (minus pickles) in latkes, the great potato pancake. You can read about it here, finding out just how Leslye Louis of New Melle does it. This should have been all over the local media.
One of us was so addicted to WC’s that he (oops – so much for anonymity) knew how many he could eat between any White Castle in town and his home after he left an evening shift at the old Globe-Democrat. And we both love latkes. This oughta be delish.

Thank you for mentioning my prize-winning recipe on your web-page (which I enjoy reading very much.) I am thrilled to have been chosen the grand-prize-winner…and I particularly loved it when the KEZK station called me the Queen of the Castle, before their interview! I tried it out with my son’s college friends at Mizzou (where I knew it would be well-received, since they don’t have a White Castle there…) and it was a hit. Little did I expect to be chosen out of 400 entries. If you would like to know anything else about the recipe, I would be happy to talk turkey (I mean White Castle)!
