Another fried chicken stop, this one with limited availability: It's Hiro's Asian Kitchen, which is offering Miss Leon Braxton's yardbird on Sunday evenings – and at this writing, there's also chicken and waffles at their Sunday brunch, too.

005There's a real home-style feel to the chicken, the crust relatively thin but nicely crisp, very flavorful in a grandma-style way. The breast was cooked through but remained moist, and the wing a good-sized piece. Green beans alongside were, surprise, surprise, not cooked for hours with a ham bone. Just barely beyond the crisp-tender stage, they had a light bacon flavor around them. A square of baked macaroni and cheese had a chewy crust and discernible cheese flavor, always a critical component. A third side – there's a choice of two – was mashed potatoes and gravy. Jalapeno cornbread finished off the plate; while it was tasty, it was chillier than room temperature, which took away from the flavor.

It must have been a busy Sunday – several regular menu items were sold out, including all the desserts except black sticky rice with coconut milk. One of the alcoholic desserts, this one called a creme brulee, ice cream with rum chata, worked very nicely.

Good service in the handsome dining room.
