Every once in a while, we find something particularly swell that we just have to share. The other night we were having dinner with The Old China Hand and Mrs. Hand at LuLu’s. And we came across a new-to-us dish that is absolutely killer, flavorful and spicy, crunchy and soft. The menu calls it Szechwan Style Boiling Fish with Vegetables, which may be correct, but is certainly less than accurate to our way of thinking.
Begin with a bowl, large enough to serve several. Brilliant red-orange liquid surrounds pieces of mild white fish and chunks of napa cabbage, all topped with chopped garlic, ginger and green onion. Not really a fish soup, with more solids than liquid, but the broth means it’s definitely not a stew. Gorgeous, and seductive enough that we forgot to whip out the camera. Quite spicy, but the occasional hit of the sweet ginger and the napa cabbage balance things nicely. Delicious, and leftovers are easily heated for a meal the next day.

Thanks for the recommendation. I have only eaten at LuLu’s for Dim Sum, which is spectacular. I haven’t ordered off the menu before, but that might have to change.
