Nope. Not on the menu during the week. That’s the fried chicken biscuit at Whitebox Eatery that’s served for weekend brunch. “Bacon cheddar biscuit, apple jalapeno syrup,” said the menu board. I’m thinking a sandwich, yes?
No. What came was three, count ‘em, three skinless, boneless breasts. That’s a concept that gives me pause right there. But these were quite tasty, well-seasoned enough and so generously breaded that the meat was well-protected. Some garlic and onion powder in there, and other, less identifiable things beyond salt and pepper. Piling them on the biscuit, which had been split with a knife and warmed on a griddle, would have been insane. Not a spicy-hot chicken like, say, Popeye's or Gus', please note, just very tasty.
The biscuit had a reasonably good texture, the cheese added a little saltiness, but I would have liked more baconish-ness to it. The syrup was unfortunately as demure as the chicken was rowdy. Very little spiciness, alas. No sides with it. Was it worth $12.99? Your call, but I ended up taking the third piece of chicken home with me, which eased the sticker shock.
Please do not skip the orange juice. Whitebox juices its own with one of those orange Spanish juice machines that produce the best commercial juice I’ve ever tasted. It really is a whole different beast. Even if the liquor laws allow one to bring in a bottle of bubbly, it would be a shame to use this good stuff for a mimosa. Prepare to be amazed, as the insurance commercial says.
